Distribute native Mac client in the Mac App Store?

I downloaded the latest native Mac app yesterday JQBX-0.9.190 and found it won't open after install. It displays an error "JQBX.app can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software." This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information.

I assume this is because it was not downloaded directly from the Mac App store which i don't see it available in. Any word on if it will be distributed that way for higher security environments?

Thanks - I am aware of this issue. I will push it through the apple app store eventually. In the meanwhile you can open it using these instructions:

Notarizing can be done without the Mac App store.
