NDugger's RO Status #41

Closed luggage66 closed 7 years ago

luggage66 commented 7 years ago

I'd like to start a vote to remove NDugger from the list of Room Owners for regular and repeated 'trolling' and working to escalate instead of de-escalate drama. While we all have our bad days (I certainly do) his regularity in being on 'the wrong side' of room drama is making other RO's job difficult at times. This would not exempt him from becoming an RO in the future.

Use thumb up and down to vote. We can get a full count/list of emoji from the github API.

👍: Accept recommendation to remove 👎: Reject and vote keep ndugger

ssube commented 7 years ago

As I expressed in the other thread, instigating cross-room drama is a pretty serious problem, since it has led to move wars and repeated kicks in the last few weeks. It's something that has been mentioned a few times and folks have asked him to stop. Whether his kicking Vap0r was abusive or a poor joke, spamming another room is not appropriate RO behavior.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

I vote no amd make a counter offer: remove luggage from RO for cyber bullying me

benjamingr commented 7 years ago

I wasn't going to vote, but seeing how nick is handling this in the room itself I think some time off would be a good growing experience.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

no

Cerbrus commented 7 years ago

I know I'm not very active at the moment, but for what it's worth:

Kicks (& other RO privileges) aren't toys. They're not something to play around with. All I'm seeing is ndugger pointing the finger back at luggage. You're only deflecting with "Nothing that has happened has been in serious fault of any rules."

This isn't a personal vendetta. This isn't a single incident. And most importantly, this won't be permanent.

I agree that a moment to cool down may be beneficial.

:+1:

ndugger commented 7 years ago

Nothing that has happened has been in serious fault of any rules.

Is true. This all seems very blown out of proportions to me. Like I said in the other issue, the joking around was two sided, and it just happened to be that C# got bored of it first, which now leaves me as the bad guy. The only thing I did today was kick vap0r, which would have gone completely unnoticed except that it lead to a 30 minute kick, so now everybody is losing their shit except for vap0r, who took it as the joke that it was.

All in all, you can remove me, and I don't really care, but I still think this is just ridiculous.

ssube commented 7 years ago

Ad hominem, redirection, and one-word denials are not an answer to the complaints here.

If you think this is mistaken, please, bring some argument or evidence. You were asked multiple times to stop spamming other rooms and ignored that, these issues are not new and have not been lurking.

Zirak commented 7 years ago

Sorry @ndugger, but if you're not going to take this topic seriously, then it's cast. I'm looking forward to seeing you back.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

No you aren't

rlemon commented 7 years ago

we can do this without being combative. Nick, I think you know good and well that we cannot govern the c# room, we're not RO's there. that's out of this scope. the issue is that you brought that into this room.

I don't want you to leave the room, or think this is a personal attack because we don't want you around. you've slipped on being an RO lately and it's accumulated to this. I would love it if you'd just chill out on being aggressive with other users (even if you're joking, they invoke kicks and flags) and go back to being chill nick with the dankest memes.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

no

Cerbrus commented 7 years ago

I don't mean to be rude, but are you drinking or something? I just can't understand why you're responding the way you are.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

Because Ben is right, I don't take this seriously. RO isn't some exciting thing that I'm going to fight over having.

benjamingr commented 7 years ago

@ndugger none of us find this particularly exciting but that doesn't mean we can't have a civil discussion. Being difficult to deal with on purpose doesn't really help your case here.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

Stop up-thumbing him

rlemon commented 7 years ago

stop trying to make us not like you. we're always going to like you.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

make me

ssube commented 7 years ago

Given @ndugger 's combative attitude, previous abuse of his powers (kicking Vap0r), and ongoing threats to do so, I'd like to suggest we remove him as RO pending the results of the vote.

Cerbrus commented 7 years ago

It's been done https://chat.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/37871036#37871036

ndugger commented 7 years ago

Because Luggage doesn't have a sense of humour

benjamingr commented 7 years ago

Let's leave open for the next 72 hours - other ROs and regulars should still be able to speak up about this.

luggage66 commented 7 years ago

I removed RO status early to prevent nick from doing anything he may regret later. The vote is still binding.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

Do you really think that I'm so immature that I would do something like that? Don't answer that.

ssube commented 7 years ago

I've done the same with his ownership of the JS organization, also pending the vote.

I agree we need to keep the vote open for the full 72 hours, especially since many ROs were not present. Vap0r should also have a chance to weigh in, as they were heavily involved.

loktar00 commented 7 years ago

This seems really hasty being only in the JS room and not paying attention to the C# room not seeing any major thing @ndugger has actually done to warrant removing RO status. He does keep the room clean of messages and while may come off harsh at times I can't say I see him constantly being an issue in the room at all by any means. He also still regularly helps users (although Luggage has been eating that task most of the time lately for sure).

Looks like everyone has voted but I hope everyone can take a step back for the 72 hours this is open and maybe come back to it on Friday and see if you still feel the same. I'll reserve my vote until then as well.

loktar00 commented 7 years ago

I don't disagree with Luggage current removal, but hoping maybe this could be more of a suspension rather than a permanent thing.

RUJodan commented 7 years ago

Holding my vote as well. If I feel he steps out of line, I let him know, and he typically chills. I think the removal was premature in response to his trolling (he's obviously not mad, but I feel Luggage took it too serious too quick to remove him. Not the worst thing.. but still.. It's Nick. He's not some postal work shooter.).

So I will simmer and think about this.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

I would like to submit further evidence of what Jordan just said: https://chat.stackoverflow.com/transcript/17?m=37862883#37862883

Luggage said I was out of line, so to speak, and I agreed and let him manage the situation without getting in the way.

eeveeta commented 7 years ago

I also agree with the current suspension from Luggage, but I don't agree with the permanent removal. Also since he's probably going to be removed anyways, I'd suggest setting a date (1 month maybe) to reconsider and vote on whether we add him back. I believe ndugger is part of the people who tie the community together and general banter shouldn't be punished. I'd hate to see him removed as RO forever.

Cerbrus commented 7 years ago

I don't think anyone minds "general banter", but I don't think banter should include kicks.

ndugger commented 7 years ago

I think it should; who's to say who's correct here? Only Judy can judge me.

monners commented 7 years ago

Don't joke-kick. Try to be nice. Have fun. Hunt vampires.

Problem solved.

MadaraUchiha commented 7 years ago

I just want to make this clear again: Room owner is not a status symbol, nor is it an indication of how much the room likes you or appreciates you. A room owner is someone meant to help keep the order in the room.

Being in a constantly joking state, joke/abuse kicking, multiroom drama/spam, that is not behavior I (as both a moderator and a fellow room owner) expect out of a room owner.

Even if you didn't break the rules per se like you say, a room owner is held to a higher standard than "I didn't break the rules".

michaelrwiley commented 7 years ago

I'm just here so I don't get fined.

FirstWhack commented 7 years ago

Why so serious lol you guys are funny.

FirstWhack commented 7 years ago

👎

MadaraUchiha commented 7 years ago

Because being a room owner is serious. If not to you, then to Stack Overflow. And the last thing I want to do is have to put on my mod hat in the JavaScript room against a room owner. This is why we have this process to begin with, and every time we're having a discussion like this someone always comes by to say "why are you so serious?", it's a well-worn argument that never stood and still doesn't.

Zirak commented 7 years ago

Removed ndugger from the owners group.
