I have the same problem here using version 2.8.8 of HCTP with Firefox 34
running on Xubuntu 14.04, so the same underlying code as Mint 17
Clicking on the Maximise/Restore button top right does not make any changes to
window size and there are no window borders to grab and resize that way.
The only way to resize is by right-clicking on the window button and choosing
Resize.
Disabling HCTP and restarting FF gives me the expected window resizing
behaviour, but I really like to use this add-on to increase usable window
space, whether it is maximised or not.
I have quite a few add-ons on my FF, and I wonder if there is some conflict
between HCTP and any of the others, particularly Classic Theme Restorer, so I
will check this out and report back.

I have just tried disabling Classic Theme Restorer but has made no difference;
there are still no window borders or ability to resize the window in the usual
way using the maximise button.

I am using Ubuntu Gnome. I solved this by selecting "Activate custom borders and corner resizers". To get to this option, go to Settings. The option is at the top under "Look and Feel". Not sure if this will work the same way in Linux Mint.
