Possibility to type accented characters on the German keyboard

It would be helpful to have the possibility to type accented characters such as 
"é" or "à" on the German keyboard. On the English (UK) and Spanish keyboards, 
for example, such characters can be chosen from a list after long-pressing the 
vowel concerned. BTW, not only the accented/special characters commonly used in 
English/Spanish can be chosen in this way. To have such an option on the German 
keyboard as well would be very helpful, especially since German has some words 
that have accented characters, e.g. "Café" and "à". At present, you must 
switch to the keyboard for a different language to type such characters.

Actually, all those accented characters are available on the English (UK), 
Spanish and Esperanto keyboards (that's all the keyboard layouts I've 
installed). It would be really helpful if they were just made available on the 
German keyboard as well.
