Shift doesn't work on HTC Desire #1163

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update to 1.3.20141223
2. Start anything to enter text.
3. Enter some letters (to avoid any auto-shifting), press shift, press a.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected behavior is typing "A". Experienced behavior is an "a".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.3.20141223, Android 2.2.2

Please provide any additional information below:
I don't think it's a device related issue; however, I'm using a HTC Desire 
A8181.
