It is a very interesting idea.
It seems quite space-efficient layout. But it will require users to learn a new
layout
- it wont be QWERTY, any more. Right?

There is no need to learn the new layout. I have made a new image ... now I see
that
can be done some more improvement (for the first row of the letters can be used
non-regular pentagons)

I like that idea - maybe this can be made as a skin? when there is support for
skins
of course :)

Hexagons are more natural for a staggered keyboard. I personally would rather
get
rid of staggering at this point though.
Several months ago, I drew, scanned in, and posted the following image:

I see people kinda like it.
I hope that keyboards addons will be able to solve this request.

There are still some things you have to consider.
* there are layouts (russian, german, etc.) that also need more keys on the
right
side. You should think about adopting that arrangement to other layouts than the
basic english one. (see screenshots)
* also think about east-west-orientated buttons rather than north-south
orientation.

* hexagonal keys might are tricky to implement. Elliptical keys will do the
same.

While I respect the suggestion, I think the layout that follows typewriter
design is not optimal for thumbing or poking glass. Typewriters are historical
devices not to be disparaged, but belong to past generations.
I used the partial hack of FITALY for Android, and loved it. For tablets with a
finger or stylus, the obsolete wide layout is, imho, not optimal.
It's a different story, though, with the ASK Dvorak split layout in landscape
mode. Unless one is strongly right-handed, one stylus in each hand should work
wonders, considering the strong hand alternation of the Dvorak layout.
