Having AnySoftKeyboard open prevents moving icons on HTC Hero home screen #232

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go to the home screen of an HTC Hero with AnySoftKeyboard running as
selected input method
2. Press and hold an icon on the home screen
3. It will load the app you held down the icon for

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When you press and hold, you should be able to move the icon around.
Instead, it loads the app as if I had just pressed and let go.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using anysoftkeyboard_20091224_testers. (I know there's a new testing
version available, but that doesn't work at all on my phone; see issue 229)
Tested on HTC Hero running MoDaCo Custom ROM 3.0.

I never experienced anything like that...
If ASK is not installed, it doesn't happen?

I can't understand how my keyboard can get in the way.
Can you provide more data? The sequence you provided above will always produce
the
problem?

I am also very surprised that ASK could possibly cause this issue. I'd been
experiencing the problem for a while, and trying to find what on earth could be
causing it. I eventually pinpointed ASK as the culprit.

The problem only occurs if ASK is installed AND it is selected as the input
method.
If I then open some sort of text field, and switch input method to the phone's
default on-screen keyboard, the problem then goes away. The instant I re-select
ASK
as the input method, I am once again unable to move my home screen icons.
Obviously,
uninstalling ASK also fixes the problem.

I have *no* idea why this would happen, but it's pretty clear that ASK is the
cause
of the problem. I assume this isn't a problem on the standard Android home
screen.
(i.e. on a home screen that does not use HTC's custom Sense interface)

Perhaps... ASK doesn't get in the way of the home screen or break the home
screen.
But perhaps ASK just doesn't implement some function that the default HTC Hero
keyboard does implement. And maybe (for whatever reason), HTC Sense (the Hero's
home
screen) depends on HTC's own keyboard software for moving icons around. After
all,
the Hero does use a custom home screen AND a custom on-screen keyboard, both of
which
are made by HTC and not Google. These two things programs (home screen +
keyboard) be
linked in some way.

tl;dr Perhaps this is HTC's fault.

I found it weird at first, as I've been using ASK on my Hero with the MoDaCo
ROMs for months without
problems... then you mentioned HTC's Sense... I've been using the default
Google home because it consumes
far less resources, giving me many hours of extra battery life.

I loaded HTC's home (on a MoDaCo 2.9 ROM) and verified Daniel's issue. Changing
the input method to HTC's
Touch Input made icon moving work OK again. I then tested other free keyboards
(TouchPal, Handcent
keyboard and Tap Tap KEYBOARD) and they ALL make icon dragging stop working,
when selected as the input
method... So; whether purposely or not, it's HTC's fault. You can only drag
icons on Sense UI when you have
their Touch Input selected.

That's weird.. I've used a port of Sense UI for Magic 32A (MyHero ROM 2.0.5)
and the
Sense UI worked perfectly with ASK, even moving icons.

Can you install the log collector, and simulate the problem, then email me the
log?
to anysoftkeyboard@gmail.com

The log collector can be found at

I have exactly the same issue with the Shape Writer keyboard. Again switching
the input mode back to default allows me to move my icons again.

This is an an HTC Hero.

Apologies, I thought I was commenting on the Android bugzilla. Out of interest
did the latest build fix it and what was changed?
