@vanovcan
Please provide slovak layout mapping on a QWERTY keyboard.
How many letters do you have in your language!

@vanovcan
You'd like to have 4 rows?

It would be better to give me a layout in this form

qwertyuiop
asdfghjkl
zxcvbnm

and

also tell me which popup characters would you like to have on long press or
double tap
dp w -> ü, or something
lp w -> 1,2,3io...

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com on 31 May 2010 at 2:13

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Looking on the real Legend having 4 rows could be a problem...

Let's discuss such layout:

QWERTYUIOP
ASDFGHJKL
ZXCVBNM

with an option to have Z and Y swapped (QWERTY vs. QWERTZ issue).

Double tap could be a shortcut to the most common accented version of the
particular letter
(e.g. double tap on letter 'a' will yield 'á' instead of 'ä') while long
press will provide a
list of all accented versions of the particular character. Thus:

Letter - double tap - all other versions
e - é
r - ŕ - ŕř
t - ť
y - ý
u - ú - úů
i - í
o - ó - óô
a - á - áä
s - š - šś
d - ď
l - ľ - ľĺ
z - ž - žź
c - č
n - ň

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What would help to speed up writing and reduce errors is a prediction mode that
ignores accented characters and suggests both words with and without accented
characters (e.g. typing 'm-o-c-i' would suggest 'moci' and 'močí' and 'moči'
[(in)
power, (he is) urinating, (in) urine :-) ].

In such a case you need the Slovak keyboard (accented characters) only in cases
when a
word is not in the dictionary when you want to add it ti the dictionary,
otherwise you
use the standard English/US keyboard (only unaccented chars).

Is that possible in soft keyboard?

For this feautere please make an Issue. It is not related to a single layoyt.

How to say slovak ins Slovak Language?

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com on 2 Jun 2010 at 2:09

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Hier the first test release. It works at least with newest testers version. I'm
not
sure if the newest market releas is the newest testers version.

We have a small bug
see here -> http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/issues/detail?id=408
which will be fixed soon.

How to say slovak in Slovak: it depends on word that follows e.g. Slovak
keyboard is
Slovenská klávesnica, even though sometimes it can be Slovensk/é-í-ý-ú...
Similar to
German "alkoholfreies Bier" but "alkoholfreier Sekt".

Btw. the first build did not work on my Legend--see attached screenshots: first
it
shown no glyphs on the keys, then it simply crashed.

@vanovcan
We need some word list of slovak language + frequency info of each word.
If you get it somewhere I could tranform it to anysoftkeyboard format.

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com on 13 Jun 2010 at 10:33

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
In the attachment you can find the Slovak dictionary, the higher number next to
a word the more frequently it is used. Some words have no frequency value:
those can have the same (lowest/default) one.

Works fine: however I was not satisfied with the vocabulary I provided. Thus I
prepared a new version of the vocabulary. The attachment is in the Open Office
spreadsheet format (Excel is limited 65k rows (at least the version I have))
and also in text format (CSV) in UTF-8 encoding.

The frequency of the words is not perfect (some issues with Oracle XE locale
and conversion of Slovak characters)--still I think we should give it a try.

Hey guys how do I install this? Do I need to install another app first (ask?) ?

I tried downloading the AnySoftKeyboardLanguagePackSlovak-20100620-ndict.apk
but android doesn't want to install it - "Package Error - There is a problem
parsing the package"

Na zdravie!

- Install the application first
(http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/downloads/detail?name=AnySoftKeyboard_201
00617_2.apk&can=2&q=)
- Install the vocabulary
- Configure use of the keyboard in the phone (see standard docs--I was able to
do it without any problems)

Ok thanks. I installed ASK. How do I install the vocab?

Original comment by swinefea...@gmail.com on 21 Jun 2010 at 8:48

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Also, does it matter if I download ASK from the market or from your link? I'm
assuming I won't get update notifications if I download the one from your link
but its newer...?

Original comment by swinefea...@gmail.com on 21 Jun 2010 at 9:01

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Yes but this is only the test version. After a while this version comes to the
market and then you should install it from there.
At this moment, install the Core from Project Homepage and the Slovak Language
Pack from here.
Language Pack and the Keyboard is the same installed. Wordlist is included in
the language pack.

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com on 21 Jun 2010 at 9:06

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Thanks again. But...

I *did* install ASK from the link provided
(http://code.google.com/p/softkeyboard/downloads/detail?name=AnySoftKeyboard_201
00617_2.apk&can=2&q=)

But when I open the slovak language pack .apk file I still get the "Package
Error - There is a problem parsing the package".

What is the correct way of installing the slovak pack?

Cheers

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Are you tring installing from this link directly in the device?
I download the language pack and then in the terminal ->

adb install AnySoftKeyboardLanguagePackSlovak-20100620-ndict.apk

I can send you the file also via mail!

Original comment by herrl...@gmail.com on 21 Jun 2010 at 9:16

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Ok I think I have it installed. (A side note, for some reason I cannot download
the apk from this site on my device, but I *can* send it to my gmail account
and then download it from the *browser* cause the silly gmail app won't let you
save attachements).

So I have the slovak pack installed and I can select it and activate it from
ASK, but I don't see any slovak accented characters in my on screen ASK
keyboard (I'm sure I have ASK selected). Even if I use gestures to flip between
the different keyboard, I don't see any Slovakness anywhere in sight, not even
suggested slovak words.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Original comment by swinefea...@gmail.com on 21 Jun 2010 at 10:31

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Ok I think I discovered how to use it... double tap to get the accented chars.

But what about word suggestions from the dictionary? How do I get those to
appear?

Thanks guys and sorry for being a pain in the ass.

The vocabulary is still 'under construction' and will be improved: I still find
common Slovak words that are not included in the current version.

ok got it... not a very clear name. :) thanks

so i got some feedback for you regarding the slovak dictionary (not sure if you
want it). when i type something like "mal", the word shows up in the
suggestions but instead "mak" is highlighted. what's up with that? that means
when i press "space" it will autocomplete to "mak". same with "nic" which goes
to "bic^"

i've also found similar issues with words that need accents but suggestions
come up without accents, but i can't find an example...

anyways, thanks again! i am definitely enjoying the new keyboard ;)

The problem ist, in this release there is no way to deactivate apprixate
feature. This means, the nearby keas are consider as possible clicked keys. We
are working to make this feature optional.

Attached you can find the Slovak vocabulary with accents from the characters
stripped off. The reason for such a dictionary is that the messaging
application on Android encodes SMSes that contain characters other than US 7bit
ASCII as UTF-16 which means that instead of 160 characters limit per SMS you
end up with 60 (70?) characters per message.

(My Nokia phone does it a little bit smarter: it strips accents from characters
that are not in the us 7 ascii set).

This reduced dictionary is good for people that do not bother about accents,
however care for typos, and do not want to pay operator 3 SMSes instead of one.

Also Google is not quick in fixing issues as this one:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2600 so a pure ASCII
vocabulary might come handy for a while...
