Slow to respond in new version

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update to version 20110515
2. Enter textarea
3. Start typing

What is the expected output?
We expect the letters to appear in the text area immediately
What do you see instead?
the letters can take up to 3 seconds to start appearing and then only slowly. 

What version of the product are you using? 20110515
On what operating system?
HTC Hero Elelinux-1.7.0-hero-v2.3
Android 2.3.4
