[Bug] the background in the reader stays black and won't change into anything else #518

Steps to reproduce

Changing the background into either white or smart (anything but black) in the reader setting

Expected behavior

The background changes according to my chosen setting

Actual behavior

It stays black no matter what i choose in the reader setting
