custom ringtones produce no sound until after restarting Telephone #310

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Use iTunes to produce .aiff files, or download .aiff files from the internet.
2. Put the .aiff files into ~/Library/Sounds so that they appear in Telephone's
Preferences.
3. Select one of the .aiff files as the ringtone.
4. Receive a call. There is no ringtone sound.
5. Restart Telephone. Receive a call. The ringtone works.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect that if I am able to select a ringtone in the preferences, it should
be able to play right
away, or if it can't, there should be a thing notifying me that I need to
restart Telephone before it
will work. Instead, I figured it out through trial-and-error that I needed to
restart first.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 0.14.3 (23) on Snow Leopard 10.6.3

Please provide any additional information below.
This was pretty confusing for me as a Telephone noob.

You're right, Telephone should be able to play ringtones right away. I haven't
tested this with .aiff files, though.
Is it the same when you're using .mp3 files?

MP3 files played right away. Only the .aiff files had any trouble.

FYI, I added two new ringtones tonight. One was a midi file that didn't work
as-is so
I converted it to MP3 using an online converter. The mp3 played right away. The
other
was an iTunes m4r ringtone file. I used SoundStudio to convert it to mp3, but
that
mp3 wouldn't play until I restarted Telephone. This is using 0.14.3 on Leopard
10.5.8

Additionally, it would be helpful if the supported formats were listed
somewhere such
as the FAQ or maybe the preferences menu. I came across mp3 by trial-and-error
and
.aiff only after reading this post.

I must report I just experienced the same problem under OS 10.6.3 with
Telephone 0.15.0 (25) with both MP3s and .aiffs. I had to restart Telephone to
hear the ring.
