Finalize API and its documentation #17

I need to finalize the interface other plugin developers use when they extend my plugin with their. I also need to document it.

I've got a good draft of the API documentation on the wiki now. I'm going to review the API experience before closing this for good.

The API is finalized. I may add onto the SortBar class later in order to handle saving/loading state on its own, but the rest of it is fine. I'll close this issue now.
