Safe authenticators #1032

Could you please send me a list of the current safe Steam authenticators (except Steam mobile authenticator.)

I know dyc3's authenticator which sounds a good alternative, Does it support adding a new Steam account and does it receive the required sms code?

steamguard-cli does support adding a new steam account via the command steamguard setup. According to my notes, steam does not currently require you to have a phone number on your account to set up 2fa. However, if you do have one on the account, the system will send you an sms instead of an email.

Thanks for your quick response. As far as I understand I can set up an account using steamguard-cli by entering the sms code I received via phone?

It guides you through the process, just follow the instructions it gives you.

I've fully transitioned to the market.csgo.com app, which received a major update this year, making it almost on par with SDA. However, I've noticed a few downsides: it lacks data encryption, constantly interacts with certain Steam APIs and its own platform for active accounts, and the code isn't open source. But given their large and active user base, it seems unlikely they have any motivation to include malicious features. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
