I don't know if this is possible or not, but it would be great if a syntax highlighter plugin could be added to the editor, through which one could apply syntax lighting to codes in the editor.

Markdown has an internal marking mechanism (triple tilds). You are also able to even specify a programming language so that the code is highlighted regarding that.
