The original icon was designed using Plex's icon template: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201199076-Development-templates

I'm not opposed to using something else that looks better, but I plan on submitting this to the channel directory eventually. Wouldn't the icon need to meet Plex's icon style guide to be approved?

Hi! I didn't even know that info is still online, because it's really outdated, both the icon template and the demo bundle. I'm maintaining the channel directory for Plex and the current style is the more "flat" icons, without borders or gloss. There are still some channels using the older icon style, but they need to be updated in the future.You can see some of the channel icons here: http://nine.plugins.plexapp.com/

Oh okay, awesome! It's really nice to hear that from the actual maintainer - do you think channel PEAR has any future as an approved channel within Plex? I'll be merging your changes soon :-)
