I also am experiencing slow framerate with 4.2.6, everything was smoother with
4.2.5

You can definitely see a difference in Yoshi's Island since the last version.

yes, confirmed here too.

Yup, put back previous version and all fine again.
Good game to notice: Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island
Note: This game is perfect with 4.2.5, a little laggy in previous version and a
lot laggier in 4.2.6

Can you try these three versions and tell me how each performs?

Snes9x-12 & Snes9x-no12 : same as 4.2.6, maybe SLIGHTLY better, some place on
Super Mario RPG are laggy. I also tried with Yoshi's island and i see the lag
when scrolling.
otherwise, snes9x-pre is perfect.
In each version, we still get the issue 644.

thanks for testing. what's the performance of this version?

snex9x-test version is much better than 4.2.6, however, I couldn't try Yoshi's
Island as it asks to disconnect other controllers to start the game ( mouse ,
etc ... )

stupid question, but are you sure you have the controller setting right in the
settings? should be set to 2 pads.

Works fine on my end.

Thanks for letting me know :)
Please continue to test the performance of this test version then and let me
know it's good. I'm still working on the slow file browser issue so don't worry
about that part.

My mistake, I changed the controllers settings and Yoshi's Island is working
fine, it is smooth and very playable, but there is some slight (but noticeable)
frames-skipping, still much better than 4.2.6

the comparison to be made is 4.2.5 vs 4.2.6. if they are the same then we're
good to go. I'm looking at this as a regression - improving the performance
beyond 4.2.5 is a whole other issue.

I got a probelm with my verson, i don't know if it's the same with other ppl
but after using test http://tantric.dyndns.org/snes9x-test.zip some of my
snapshots become incompatible from 4.2.6 with new test version, also with
Yoshi's Island creating a new snapshot the file doesn't show up after creating
it but works on other games tho.

the snapshots made in 4.2.6 are incompatible with those in this test version.
it updates 4.2.5 snapshots to a new format. this test version has some code
reverted so that it's the same snapshot format as 4.2.5

Found out hat if you activate HQ2X on filters for video, you get the LAGGING,
deactivate both, the video filter and HQ2X and framerate goes to normal.

ok guys, how's this beta? good enough to call 4.2.7?

It works, the graphics no longer have a lag either with filters activated.

dborth, wouldn't be better to include an option to display the framerate, so we
can easily spot any performance decrease between each future version? For
example, if with some specific change in version 4.2.8 you lose a few fps, but
people only notice it some months later, it would be much harder to find what
exactly caused it, since the emulator got through a lot of changes in this
period of time.
But with a fps counter it would be much easier to compare each version (running
Yoshi Island, for example) in order to see if the the framerate is still
running at 60fps - without drops.
Wii is capable of running all SNES games always at 60fps. It would be a shame
to let a small change hurt this great emulator.

I agree, an option for a FPS counter would be great. Its a supremely impressive
emulator, so I don't expect there to be many framerate issues, but at least we
can confirm and identify these if we do come across them.

Some slowdown is normal on real SNES hardware, like when there are too many
sprites/objects on the screen at one time (Earthbound is a good example), so
that's to be expected.
