Suggestions for fields, and printing #21

First a big kudos for a well executed project idea. Family tree chart is something many people need but there are few good tools available.

My comments about the project:

  1. The fields for each person is quite limited. In addition to names and birth/death dates, there should also be fields for: gender, occupation, schools, city/country, and probably other user-specific fields. Usually for a family history, there are many snippets of information.

  2. The printing of the family tree should not be under Export, it is not obvious. Also there should be some options to allow the report to include the fields we want to include.

  3. Most people only maintain a few family tree charts, perhaps one on each side of the spouse. For a multi-generation chart, it is easier to keep each nuclear family as one database, and allow a node to hyperlink to another nuclear family. In my own chart of five generation and up to 10 sibilings at each generation, it is total chaos to try to chart it.

  4. Perhaps it is possible to include a sample family tree database in a new installation? It will make it easier to learn how to use this tool.

At first, thank you for your feedback. 😄 Lets discuss you points:

  1. I think you mean the "fast editing panel" at the right with the limited fields. If you click on the pencil on a person a popup with a lot of fields and tabs opens.

At this you can add multiple informations. I hope this is what you searched for.

  1. That's right, I really didn't succeed with the export point. If I create a newer version I wanted to solve it completely differently.
  2. Yeah this might be an option to solve it. Currently, however, it is solved in a similar way via this button: image With this you switch to the view of the spouse family.

But i know what you mean i have my own family in the program with data up to 15 generations and the year 1500 and the navigation via chart is really not easy. So yes you have a point here 🥲

This is only the male part of my fathers family (where i even dont add the children of all family members): image

  1. Yes, good idea
