If you take the decision, you dont get the Assimilation boost, so you just get half of your population unaccepted :/

Hiya, could you specify the exact decision name, it helps us find which event you mean

Its a decision, which pops up if you form germany and have the extra german flavor activated on start of the game. In the decision there are multiple options, one just closes the event, one closes the event for the entire game and two change the primary culture and should give you Assimilation boost to the culture you choose to assimilate.
