Crows don't eat seed mixture off of ground (1.19.2) (0.3.3.1)

Hello, I read in the Book of Shadows that you can toss the crow snackies on the ground and crows will come and eat them with a better chance of becoming tamed than hand-feeding, but they don't seem to react when I throw them. Since seed mixtures are proving difficult to automate and some crows can eat almost 30 of them before being tamed, I was hoping there was an easier way to tame them though I understand they're meant to be difficult to befriend since they're so helpful.
