Interpreter broken under Python 3.0a2 #82

Just recording the fact that I have not managed (yet) to make the
interpreter work under Python 3.0a2.  It is not that it has been broken as
such - just that it never worked.

New Python is now at 3.0a3 and I have abandoned (temporarily) adaptation to 
3.0. 
This issue has become invalid as the Python version referred to is obsolete.
