Hey Arnauld
Couple of things, first, macOS can display HDR videos on SDR monitors, though it may not always look great.
The issue with what you are asking is that those are different files, so you would need a large amount of space to cache both sets. So while theoretically possible, it's quite a big job to implement that, with a lot of drawbacks for end users.
I'll keep it in mind but no promise.
Hey Guillaume,
Indeed HDR video on a SDR monitor is not great unfortunately.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best regards and "joyeuses fêtes de fin d'année" !
I’d like to upvote ✅ this one as well. Same situation: I’d love to display 4K HDR on beautiful built–in XDR of MBP, while still being able to display 1080p SDR on my mediocre external display, so it doesn’t come too dark with most of details lost (at least in case of custom videos I’m trying to use). I wouldn’t mind extra disk space, as it would rather be an advanced feature enabled by users who know how to limit and manage their cache and understand both benefits and drawbacks.
At first it could just be a selective quality choice for main and secondary, and only later could expand to individual per display choice. I’d appreciate your re–consideration 🥺.
Hello,
I have a two screens configuration: one is SDR and the other is HDR.
It would be amazing being able to select a specific video type for each monitor while playing the same video (hence downloading the 2 versions of a same video: SDR and HRD).
Thanks for the great work.
Best regards, Arnauld.
