Since installing Sonoma, whenever Aerial is running, the fan is running, often on high. This was never an issue before Sonoma. Latest version of Aerial was installed via Aerial Companion. thx

What year mbp do you have ? I believe that early on the betas Apple had broken hardware decoding on Intel for videos, and that may still be the case.

I suggest you try going into Aerial's settings, Cache, then try play some videos from the cache directly in quicktime, see if you get fan action too there ?

Another thing comes to mind, try to see if it happens only on the new videos (Sonoma, Monument Valley, Oregon, Super blooms), those may be harder to decode on Intel macs because they are currently only available as 240 fps videos. I this is an issue you may want to uncheck those for the time being.

It’s an M1 MBPro. And strangely, seems to be behaving fine now, after two days of constant fan.

Will post back if the problem returns. Thx much for the quick response and suggestions.

On a M1 that's super surprising, it could be it was something else.

Apple does run some tasks in the background when the screensaver runs, for example, image recognition stuff from Photos and that's been problematic in the past for some. Quite likely it was something like that, on a M1 there's 0 chance that the video decoding is an issue as it handles all formats (including the new one).

Let me know if it comes back but I wouldn't be surprised if it was photos or something equivalent

Ahhhh, probably exactly what it was! Likely Sonoma Photos trying to recognize all my pet pics.

And yes, I was really surprised to experience that on Apple Silicon. Hopefully a one-off anomaly.

thx Guillaume

No problem, let me know if you hear it again but I would be surprised.
