What kind of games are you building? #117

I'd like to start this issue as a thread to see what kind of games that you are either building, or are looking to build, using Imagine Engine. It would be great to hear in order to decide what directions to take the engine in, and to identify any new features that the community could benefit from 🚀

So whether you have screenshots, a prototype, or just a loose idea - I'd love to hear it! 😀 Put it as a comment and we'll break off any discussions about new features or how to implement certain things into separate issues 👍

I'll go first! 😀 I'm currently building an asteroid dodging game called Revazendo together with The Lando Bros and Kristian Johansson. The game is a new take on the classic 2D Shoot 'em up (or Shmup genre), in that you control a 2D space ship with retro graphics, but you can't actually shoot (unless you acquire a power-up), but instead have to focus on dodging incoming asteroids.

The game is currently in public beta on TestFlight, if you want to check it out you can sign up to join the beta at revazendo.com! 🚀

My next project will be a top-down racing game.

I think the main thing I'm missing in ImagineEngine right now is better collision detection. I have actually started working on that... 😀 @JohnSundell, should I submit a PR when I have something that works and then we can have a discussion around the code or is it better to create an issue first?

JohnSundell commented 6 years ago

That looks really cool @mattiashagstrand 🎉😄 You can totally submit a PR directly if you want @mattiashagstrand, as long as you don't mind changing the implementation if there's some feedback. If you want feedback earlier you can also open an issue for discussion 👍

I'm also porting my 2013 game Swords & Arrows to Imagine Engine 🚀 It's making heavy use of plugins (just like Revazendo) to modularize all systems, like the snow effect, scrolling the map, etc 👍

Hi John,

I'm planning to use Imagine Engine with my Computer Science classes; I'm a teacher at the high school level on Ontario, Canada.

I appreciate how the engine simplifies 2D game development. I have used SpriteKit directly with students in the past and it's been a bit much for some students to wrap their minds around.

I do have some brief questions for you – I'm @rgordon on Twitter and @lcs-rgordon on GitHub. Is there a good way to reach you?

Thanks and take care,

Russ

Hi @lcs-rgordon! 👋

Oh yeah, I remember that you told me about that on Twitter - that's super exciting! 😀 Feel free to either DM me on Twitter or open issues here if it's something you'd like help with in terms of Imagine Engine 👍
