Wonder if it would be worth attempting to backport 4.x beam layout code into 3.7, if it is absolutely deemed an improvement? Might be more trouble than it's worth. . ., as it would require updating of unit tests and everything else. Still, it would be nice to "snap the fingers" and have it all done.
