cannot turn on wifi #308

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start android,
2. click settings->wireless->
3. turn-on wifi

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
a strong access point should be detected,but the sub mention under turn on wifi 
option just say error.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
thinkpad r400 2784a54,android-x86-2.2-generic.iso

Please provide any additional information below.
any mode of live cd can not make it
