I have wondered the same thing, but maybe they just forgot to change the version number in the "About" section. No point in asking thought really, project is dead in the water. Several things were broken after a Windows Update and the author of TileIconifier no longer responds to comments here or else where. He's active on a couple of forums but he refuses to respond to any messages, at least concerning this app. Kinda a dick move imo. May as well take the entire git down if it's never going to be fixed.
@harvestry-of-ghosts Thank you for your help and support with dealing with these issues in my absence. I appreciate that this situation must be frustrating for people who would like to use this software for their needs, especially as it has been reported a few times that it is no longer picking up Windows Store applications.
When I first started writing this software, I was unemployed, travelling Asia and settled in one particular place for a period of a few months. This entire project started with a simple question on superuser.com, which can be found here: https://superuser.com/questions/962849/how-can-i-change-the-icon-size-on-the-windows-10-start-menu/1033361#1033361 . At that point, I had a lot of time on my hands, as you'll notice from my activity on that particular site which has since dropped to zero. It was in response to a particular problem, which I noticed could be solved relatively quickly with a utility to do the same job. As I said, I had a lot of time on my hands then.
I apologise that I haven't responded to very many posts recently. A lot of the issues that come up are often repeats of issues I have previously informed cannot be fixed (wide/large tile support, transparency, some icons not working), which are all addressed in the readme and I haven't taken the time to make a response to these, for which I admit may be a 'dick move'.
I do however strongly disagree that taking down the repository would be a sensible step. Initially, I only ever put the source up here so that people could look at it for themselves and establish that it is trustworthy, something I have always strongly felt should be the case as hiding malicious intent within a closed source application is easy to do, especially as this one requires administrator privilege to perform a number of its tasks. However, with that comes the ability for anyone to pick it up, fork it and support it as anyone sees fit, something I would quite happily encourage. My only other activity on GitHub has been to adapt a project for software I actively require for a paid role, which ironically hasn't been maintained in years either, hence the need for me to fork it and work on it myself. Whilst I am extremely grateful to all the individuals who have made a donation to me in regards to building this software in the first place, it unfortunately hasn't been enough for me to consider dropping everything I am doing to pour hours into getting all the issues resolved.
In the future when I have a spare weekend, I likely will pick this up again and fix the issues. Development is now a full time job for me and not just a hobby, and I am currently in a position where after a full day of work I would like to spend the evening relaxing with my wife and my other active hobbies and interests, rather than deep in code.
I am sorry if you feel I am letting you down on this, and would invite you to make a fork of this project or a version of your own, as I don't currently have the available free hours to spend on bringing all the issues back up to speed.
Once again, thank you for your previous responses to issues on this repository.
When I try to download the latest version available, when I start it up I get the impression that it is version 2.2.6776.40899. And not the last one as it should be. Why? I downloaded the x64 version
