Now i'ts hard to differ open tab with Gorilla in browser. Would you accept pull request with this? I could help.

JonyEpsilon commented 10 years ago

That would be great! A PR would be very happily received. What do you have in mind? A little Gorilla? :-)

ivan-kleshnin commented 10 years ago

I doubt I can put any recognizable gorilla picture in 16x16, but I'll give myself a chance to try ;) G letter may also fit for a while. You already chose a recognizable font. Anyway I'll try to come with a few variations of this.

JonyEpsilon commented 10 years ago

:) A 'G' sounds like a good idea :+1:

I'm not a designer, but I love wild animals :) This is what I've got with gorilla option. Please, evaluate :)

JonyEpsilon commented 10 years ago

That's fantastic! I love it :-)

ivan-kleshnin commented 10 years ago

Thank you. I'll try to look at this with fresh eyes tomorrow. Making icons is hard!

Beta-version performed with "brand" color #4e6c85 (docs sidebar bg and repl title)

JonyEpsilon commented 10 years ago

Hi Ivan, sorry for the slow reply!

That looks nice. I showed it to a few of my colleagues/friends and while they all thought it looked cool, a couple of them didn't realise it was a Gorilla, and one of them thought it was something else altogether (something that would definitely be inappropriate, and that I won't name here as it's NSFW!!). So, maybe we should play it safe and go for the G logo after all?

ivan-kleshnin commented 10 years ago

Yeah, I'll try to have a wack at G :) NSWF was my concern as well.

ghost commented 10 years ago

Heres my shot at it :)

My favourite is gorilla number 2.

ivan-kleshnin commented 10 years ago

I can't see any difference between them :(

And shouldn't it be 16x16 (for the smallest one)?

ghost commented 10 years ago

Yeah anti aliasing created by most browsers makes the details quite blurry, I'll create a gif version. Afaik the 16x16 version isn't necessary.

ivan-kleshnin commented 10 years ago

The rendering size is still 16x16 in most browsers. If 16x16 is not provided, it will be downsampled to it (with blurry result). Nevertheless, great picture! I only wonder what those white pixels represent. A teeth?

ghost commented 10 years ago

Thoughts :)?

Resampled one looks better, maybe I'm wrong and resampling will not hurt so much. Need to test drive this with real gif though. 16x16 is too small to recognize, just as in my case.

ghost commented 10 years ago

I think these are more a bit more recognisable.

Sorry for the spam I think this is my final version. I realised that the shoulders don't really make sense :)

I like the overall impression, though the face of the bigger one looks more like hippo than monkey to me ^_^

JonyEpsilon commented 10 years ago

@ticking These look fantastic, I love them! Want to put them in a PR? Or I can take them from here if you'd prefer.

ghost commented 10 years ago

Glad you like them  I tried to make some adjustments to @ivan-kleshnin s suggestion, it does indeed look a bit like a hippo. Also I made the hands a bit more detailed.

You can choose whichever version you prefer :), I'll make a pull request then including the original files.
