Move messaging system to use JLayouts #162

Before merging decide whether we are going to use JLayouts or Roberto's new layout rendering system he is designing.

Currently we are being forced to extend and override the base paths as there is no way of setting them (there should be in the new system)

Entirely up to you mate. Personally I would suggest using JLayouts for the time being as Roberto's new rendering system won't be available for ages. This PR will allow us to start working on new features that have been on hold for a long time
