Reactions to Videos: Awards #1999

Open dmtrjsg opened 2 years ago

dmtrjsg commented 2 years ago

Context

Tasked with designing video reactions Nina came up with a concept of Rewards.

Brief

If we are going in the direction of rewards as donations (rewards purchased for Joys before allocation): ⚠️ Awards can be introduced as free assets at first, with pricing introduced later ⚠️ Exact tokenomics TBD based on runtime constraints and strategic product purview

Design

Overall

I love the idea, I am seeing this as a way of doing tipping which is more fun? Correct me if that is too narrow of a view.

Brief

Awards can be priced at a varying range hence driving the demand on overall Joys circulating in the system.

I don't undertand what this means. Are you saying the publisher decides on the price?

Awards can be introduced as free assets at first, with pricing introduced later

Did not understand

Next Steps

I don't think I can evaluate merits of doing this as part of reactions & comments sprint, that would depend on how long it would take for design, handoff, implementation, and it also requires work on the runtime and query layer which is not 100% obvious.

I would prefer we keep this idea as part of our portfolio of alternatives to fully implement perhaps as part of our options when we are done with what we already have planned, but open for further input.

@bedeho Re next steps - 💯 this one is for the backlog as an idea.

Pricing at varying range -> I see it as an "awards market' with some priced above the others. Pricing to be defined by the platform. Conceptualising of supply/demand and pricing requires more thinking.

Awards can be introduced as a free asset -> pricing of awards is up to Joystream (platform); price of awards could be zero. In case of zero, the viewer would only need to pay for transaction costs to have an award badge displayed on the publishers's video / channel.

Re Tokenomics TBD -> just saying that supply and demand need to be thought about better. Runtime support of this issue to be scoped first and tech approach will impact design of this idea.

Overall I agree that this can be parked and be revisited later.
