Solution for Polkadot Vault updated version recovering a different address #5030

Problem

If a user installed Polkadot Vault (previously called Parity Signer: https://signer.parity.io) on a device and generated a key there some time ago and then install Polkadot Vault on a new device, when they enter the seedphrase to recover the key they will get a different address. This is caused by Polkadot Vault changing its behavior with derivation paths.

Solution

  1. Add the Joystream network to Polkadot Vault as you normally would
  2. Recover the key and put in the seedphrase
  3. Open the key in your wallet
  4. At the top right of the screen you will see a + button, press that
  5. Select the Joystream-node network
  6. At the bottom of the screen, press the Add Custom Derivation Path button
  7. In the text field that says Derivation Path Name erase everything there (i.e. blank)
  8. Press the Done button in the top right of the screen
  9. You will now have the key!
