Are we sure this actually works? #1

I am not sure if adding #g to all ecosia search will actually do something for the environment. On the one hand, it devalues ads on ecosia itself, as any user using this extension is basically a bot using ecosia as a proxy for queries.

This also means that, unlike when using google, there are TWO requests, one for ecosia and one for google, which leads to double the carbon being released; finally, I would question if ecosia gets any money at all from extension users, as they cannot show ads if you do not visit your wesbsite

Kind regards, Pablo

Thank you for your message. I understand your concerns about the #g feature. The project has been discontinued for months now, but as seen in the screenshot, it once claimed to work by adding #g to queries. Like you, I’m now unsure if it was effective or aligned with its goals.

Best regards

Dear @Jukombe,

thanks for your response! I respectfully opened a PR to incorporate your comment to the project's README.

I would also suggest that the extension be taken down from AMO.

Kind regards, Pablo
