Some fixes to support 0.5 #23

Submitting another PR to fix support for 0.5 along with some corresponding changes to tests.

Hi again! A lot of the code you fixed doesn't exist anymore on the dev branch. In general almost all the data iteration code has changed completely. The best thing to do is to check if the dev branch works for you and PR against that if you fix something on it
