I think that dimension is conventionally 0 here, see the part on Vector space dimension in this article.

The dimension of an algebraic set is not the dimension of its affine-hull

I agree that if dimension is not the affine hull, you should change the text.

Alright, the consensus is to keep the docstring generic. I've made that change.
