The PR title (Python 2) was a tad strange to read in 2023, but thanks for the PR content :))

For the record, many years ago, someone made a PR to make Pipe compatible with Python 3, it felt strange, I was a "Python 2 dev", was not really willing to care with Python 3 at the time. Now I'm not really willing to care about Python 2, time flies!
