I did a Pinyin keyboard in #585 and suggested one might produce Chinese by feeding the output to Google Translate. To give Unexpected the knowledge of 1500? Chinese characters is more difficult.

There’s a FOSS Chinese pinyin keyboard called FCITX5 for Android. You can’t customize the layout there though.
