Eliminate code duplication in CasterBoard

This change makes the CasterBoard class easier to maintain and possibly extend in the future.

I also created a .gitignore file to ignore build products and thus prevent mistakes when contributors try to work on the code.

This is great, looks like your changes were mostly merged/adapted into #10 though so i'm going to close this in favor of merging that.
