amazon dropping affiliates? #11

I was looking to leverage these browers extensions to support another kind of market. But was told that Amazon tries to detect these types of browser extensions and will drop the affiliate and ban them.

rikai, have you heard about this? Is there some precedence for Amazon to allow these types of extensions if they are detected?

Looking into this.

I cant really see any major reason for them to want to do this. This literally is only used by people that explicitly install it for the use stated in it's description. I would assume anything related to banning affiliates would be more along the lines of someone creating something that is purporting to be something else and then doing what this extension does in the background.

What this plugin does is not only clearly stated, but actively requires the user to seek it out and install it to get the only functionality it has.

I did more research. Amazon.co.uk has you register the fact that you are going to use an affiliate link in some sort of program bit.ly/19nixZ1

For amazon.com, the affiliate help desk said you had to request permission. I can copy the email if interested.

I think it has to do with potential lost revenue for amazon. Why would they want to pay the %1 for traffic being driven to their site, when in fact the traffic didn't come from their affiliate directly.

I think it's crap they are putting limitations on it's use, but wanted you to be aware
