[ BUG REPORT ] - Garbled UI on first time installation #873

Closed vitorpop292111 closed 5 months ago

vitorpop292111 commented 5 months ago

Ever I want to talk with Natsuki, when I select one of the available options, the questions boxes are all glitched and without their texts. This also applies to "Settings". I already deleted the game and all files of DDLC and the mod from my computer and installed everything again, but didn't work. I have read some helps from the available links from notepad archive that opens when you click on "Help" in "Settings", but didn't worth. Could you can help me? ;-;

A note: This is the first time I put a DDLC mod, though I have followed everything right in the Instructions, did I need to do anything more? I'll be thankfully if my problem can be solved.

Have you looked in AppData/Roaming/RenPy for any folder that says "Just Natsuki"? Close the game, and delete that folder (it contains save data), and then restart the game. (Assuming you are on Windows)

Please be mindful though that following these instructions will wipe all progress, basically making you start over. Do this only as a last resort.

Hi @RZed01 - with all due respect, please do not ever suggest the deletion of save data as a potential fix before a member of the team has had a chance to review and provide input.

@vitorpop292111 - Can you please advise on how you installed the mod, and how you are running the game? For example, are you running it through Steam, or using a mod loader?

Blizzardsev commented 5 months ago

Also @vitorpop292111, can you please let us know what operating system you are using?

Alright. I'll keep that in mind. As I said, my suggestion should only be used as a last resort, implying that other options if presented should be considered first. Sorry if that caused any confusion, and I will try my best to not do this again.

My operating system is Windows 10 Home.

I had downloaded the original Doki Doki Literature Club folder from the official website, like the way the Instructions were directing me, and I put it on my Desktop. After that, I ran Just Natsuki Installer and extracted all the installer contents to the folder. When the entire process was finished, I closed the installer window and ran the game. At the beginning everything was fine, the texts were all visible, all the effects were working perfectly, and I managed to select the first options to be able to talk to Natsuki. When the Prologue ended, I gone to speak some conversations to Natsuki, but when I selected one sentence, all the boxes were glitched and without any text, I tried the other options but they were the same thing. I closed the game and opened it again, but nothing changed, I restarted my computer, but it was still glitched, I uninstalled and installed the game again, but... same.

I'm not running through Steam or any mod loader.

No, but I was even thinking about doing this.

Okay, it will not be a problem, I just had played the Prologue.

Given the effects seem to be purely graphical, and the context of having installed the mod the way we recommend, this would suggest a problem with your rendering settings or perhaps your machine's graphics: do you experience any graphical bugs with any other games, or mods (for example, Monika After Story)?

Given the save data has nothing to do with how items like the interface are rendered, deleting your save data would have no impact. I would suggest looking at if you can change the renderer that Ren'Py (the game engine) uses to see if this fixes the issue. You can do this by holding the Shift key after launching the game, but before the game loads, or by pressing Shift + G once the game has loaded, selecting Graphics Acceleration, picking a different renderer, then selecting Quit and restarting JN.

Blizzardsev commented 5 months ago

Failing this, you may want to ensure your graphics drivers are up to date.

Hello @vitorpop292111, are you still experiencing this issue?

Blizzardsev commented 5 months ago

Closing due to inactivity. @vitorpop292111 please refer to the guidance regarding your graphics drivers and Ren'py rendering options as mentioned above.

If this continues to be an issue after following those steps, then we can revisit this.
