TRAP THE ERRORSSSSSS!!!!!! #1085

It's a huge pain in the ass to be downloading/installing mods, then get an unhandled exception error when some web page that supposedly allows the plugin to download gives a 403 error! Also, I'm getting unhandled errors when faced with contradictory mods that have been selected for install. It needs to be given a tab selection method for choosing between the two.

Happens everytime to me with downloads from kerbalstuff, when i try to install/update more than 2 mods at once.

I've been unsuccessful in my previous attempts at reproducing this issue with KerbalStuff. However with GitHub hosted mods it's even listed in the wiki as a known issue.

As for the unhandled errors when installing conflicting mods I'd love examples because you shouldn't even be able to attempt to install conflicting mods so that sounds like a mean bug which we'll want to squash asap.

I haven't run across the Kraken again yet, but there's another annoying issue. If I get any error during installation, like a 404 error for any selected mod, it throws the normal info box, then another unhandled exception. Hit continue, and it stops the install, and it forget what my selections were, forcing me to go through and selecting them again. Very annoying. We absolutely should be catching and handling all the exceptions that may be thrown from ckan.dll in the clients. Part of doing that properly is not blanket trapping exceptions, as that defeats the whole point of having them in the first place. Instead, we should be seeing which exceptions users are seeing, and making sure we handle each one correctly for the error concerned.

I'm in the process of merging pull requests today that will cover some of those, and I know we have a number of other bug reports on individual errors that give us a map of what's remaining. But I'm re-opening this and assigning it to me so I can go through the ticket and see if there's any ones that haven't been reported elsewhere.

Feature request: when deselecting a mod that's required by another one, it should prompt you that it will uninstall the parent mod. Better yet, have those flagged as children of another one, or grayed out, and have the mouseover help popup say which mod(s) require it. @pjf Just noticed you have self assigned this one. I don't know if it helps but I started to group unhandled exceptions related to download problems. Also noted that because the user input selection is lost during these crashes. They can cause much frustration. See #1572

Agree that blanket trapping exceptions is not good. However in this case putting them in the same issue report seemed appropriate. Although they all separate errors they all seem to have the same root cause in external server 404 errors. I hope that this helps a little bit more.
