KaiKostack / bullet-constraints-builder

Add-on for Blender to connect rigid bodies via constraints in a physical plausible way. (You only need the ZIP file for installation in Blender. Click the filename and at the next page "Download", right click and "Save As" won't work!)

Blender 2.8 update #8

Closed gunqqer closed 4 years ago

The 2.8 update has effectivly removed the toolshelf (which this plugin relys on). Will there be any update to the plugin or should I find some other way of doing this?

KaiKostack commented 4 years ago

I haven't started to port the BCB over to 2.8 as I think it's still to early, but when the time comes the BCB will probably be moved to the Physics tab. Not sure when this will happen, though.

It sounds like you are already trying to make it work in 2.8. How far have you come?

gunqqer commented 4 years ago

it installs fine, but blender says it must be updated. So Im pretty sure everything works (don't quote me on this) just that you can't actually use it without the toolshelf.

(That's my one gripe with 2.8, they just removed the toolshelf which made a ton of plugins unusable)

KaiKostack commented 4 years ago

I'm pretty sure there is more to update than that. There is no layers and groups in Blender 2.8 anymore but collections instead, the BCB needs a lot of modifications and testing to make it work with the new system.

I would recommend to use 2.79 for simulation for the time being. You can export the animation to 2.8 via Alembic or point cache file formats (.mdd/.pc2) if needed as I have described here: https://blenderartists.org/t/custom-build-blender-fracture-modifier/616502/1751

You're not supposed to close unresolved issues

JT-os commented 4 years ago

Sounds resolved to me for the time being.

Goury commented 4 years ago

@JT-os resolved how? Does it work with 2.8 at all?

KaiKostack commented 4 years ago

This software has never been designed to work for Blender 2.8, supporting it would be a nice-to-have but it's not an actual issue with the software itself. Sooner or later it's likely that we will start porting it over, so please be patient.

So don't close it until then
