Quick questions
HOI4 version: Current
Kaiserreich version: Current
Describe the specific change you would like:
The most recent update changed around the army spirits again, and now the ideological specific army spirits look like this
Syndicalist to Social Conservative - Relief of Command (Grants insane good army xp gain + cheap advisors, highly useful)
Authdem and PatAut - State serves the Military (Grants a nice PP boost + cheaper conscription laws, useful)
Totalist and NatPop - Ideological Loyalty (Grants weekly manpower. Situational)
I think that Ideological loyalty should be removed entirely and these ideologies should just get the "State serves the Military" spirit.
Explain the reasoning behind this actionable change:
I have two arguments as to why this should be removed
Gameplay
Ideological loyalty is by far the worst army spirit, and in KR this is a lot worse. In vanilla hoi4, this spirit gives small, low manpower nations a reason to go communist. However, in KR ideologies are a lot more restrictive in regards to what you can go. In particular, Totalism and National Populism are relatively more restrictive ideologies, and you mostly see major nations able to go these ideologies. For most of the nations that could go Totalist/NatPop, the weekly manpower is thus useless for them. The only countries that can go these ideologies that I see benefiting from the spirit are the UBD, El Salvador, Cuba, Bhutan, and maybe Australia? Either way, the division limit that KR has further makes the spirit worthless, as you're unlikely to be deploying an army larger than 6 or 7 units as most of these nations.
Unless if a nation has extra content for going these radical ideologies, there is now less reason to go Totalist or NatPop in regards to gameplay. This is particularly noticeable with France and the UOB, both of which are better off staying Syndie/RadSoc to make use of the insanely strong Relief of Command spirit.
Realism
It's needless to say how ridiculous summoning 500 bodies out of nowhere to serve in the army every week is. In Vanilla hoi4, its fine since its a relatively more sandbox-style game. KR however has leaned a lot more into the plausibility and RP, so keeping in this spirit that gives an insane amount of manpower is a little silly. You can quickly eclipse the population of your entire country with how much manpower you have in the army.
In game, most of the time National Populists and (particularly) Totalists are represented by their militarism and belief in the priority of the army. Having them get a spirit all about the state serving the army thus makes sense.
Also, in regards to RP, the spirit really doesn't work for NatPops art-wise, since the spirit is represented by a picture of Marx. At the very least, the icon should be changed if the spirit is going to stick around.
Additional context or comments:
KR has already made some changes to the balance of these spirits, such as by making the "Political Loyalty" spirit give a war stability modifier instead of a party popularity one. Perhaps the spirit could be changed to give a different buff, if the devs want to keep it around. Maybe something like an organization buff, attack buff, or a reinforce rate buff would be suitable as well. This might hurt the balance a little though.
Another viable option I see is just making both "State serves the Military" and "Ideological Loyalty" BOTH available to Totalists/Natpops. At that point, perhaps "Ideological Loyalty" could also be given to Syndicalists and Radsoc as well, in addition to keeping "Relief of Command" as an option. These would allow for a lot more flexibility in gameplay for these nations, and open up more times for when this spirit could actually be useful.
Also, although this might be more of a pain to implement, the spirit could be restricted to certain nations and thus renamed. A nation like NatPop UBD trying to restore Germany, or RadSoc Latvia trying to restore the USSR actually could make use of the manpower from this spirit, and are ideologically fanatical. It could be nice to give certain nations like these the spirit for when they could actually need it. I think this is probably the worst way to go about it though.
