Quick questions
HOI4 version: 1.9.3
Kaiserreich version: 1st August 2020
Describe the change you would like:
I believe the following border changes will make Kaiserreich better:
Explain the reasoning behind this change:
One of the few things that I find unrealistic about Kaiserreich was how little territory Germany and Austria gained in Europe after fighting the worst war mankind has ever seen for 5 years. Considering the real life treaties of Brest-Litovsk and Bucharest, the Central Powers were not above taking a lot of territory even in the event of a "peace with honor".
Picture 1:
Poland was always mostly in the West or mostly in the East throught its history. Germany could simply move Poland in the East so that they would gain the Polish territory from the West. During the Partition of Poland, Germany took Warsaw while Austria took Lubin.
That being said Germany and Austria could simply partition Poland like they did in 1795 and leave East Poland independent. Poland then could have the choice to join Reichpakt and take back their former territories the East or join Russia and take back their former territories in the West. Or join the Balkan Pact and take back their former territories in the South.
The Brest-Litovsk was a harsh treaty but eventually Germany lost the war and the treaty couldn't be enforced. In this timeline of a weaker Russia and victorious Germany, using the Russian breach of the Brest-Litovsk treaty as an excuse, the victorious Central Powers could demand even more territory from Russia, they would be justified since Russia broke the previous agreement. That extra territory would go to their Baltic, White Ruthenian and Ukrainian puppets. Germany and Austria want strong puppets in the East to avoid a war on 2 fronts again.
Picture 2:
Bulgaria and Greece both claimed Thessalonica during the 1st and 2nd Balkan Wars, the fact that Bulgaria won World War 1 but didn't get Thessalonica from Greece is kind of unrealistic in my opinion.
Picture 3:
Again, the winning the war but gaining no significant land Argument. Austria previously owned all of Venice but lost it to Italy in the Prussian - Austrian war of 1866 where Italy was an ally of Prussia. It makes no sense for Austria not to want to take back all of Venice after World War I. It was a mostly Italian region indeed, but Austria didn't care about flamboyant things like ethnicity and self-determination, Austria was more old school.
Picture 4:
Perhaps the strangest thing is that Germany only got Nancy from France and a bit of Belgium. It's such a small territorial gain for 2 great powers that fought each other for 5 years in the worst war mankind has ever seen.
I suggest that Germany takes Verdun as well from France and all Belgian territory south of Meuse river, including Liege.
In exchange, to keep Belgium as an ally (puppet), Germany gives Calais and Lille from France to Belgium. While Calais and Lille were never part of Belgium since it was formed in 1830, they used to be Flemish before being annexed by France in 1713, Belgium can use this to justify their claim on Calais and Lille.
Additional context or comments:
I'm aware that such a huge map change requires a new major update as well as minor fixes in previous focus trees. Not to mention, new rebalancing so that Germany and Austria won't become overpowered.
While I don't think that Germany and Austria should be significantly stronger than they are right now for gameplay reasons, it's unrealistic lore-wise for them to annex so little territory at the end of World War I, and this kind of breaks immersion for me a bit. Even Bulgaria took more territory than them.
