This gets suggested every so often, from inside and outside the team, and there are definite advantages to it, but also some major downsides. We already have a massive amount of content, built up over the course of about 18 years at this point by dozens of people, and if we tried to switch to the E3 map we'd have to get all of that working again, and even if we automate that somehow, there's still all the events that would benefit from a manual touch anyway, making for a MASSIVE amount of work that we would have no choice but to do before working on anything else. Then there's the balance and performance impacts, which would be a whole other thing too; we've already made changes to things like resources and province constructions, and we'll be doing more of that in the future, so dropping in a map with OTL 1936 values means we'd have to start that all over again as well. One thing I'd also personally like to work on, eventually, is reducing the number of units that get fielded in the late game through various means, which would kind of conflict with the E3 map basically requiring a lot more units to properly cover much longer front lines. (And there's issues around infrastructure construction, both hard-building and the investment decision, and other map buildings, nuclear weapons being effectively nerfed, strategic bombing being nerfed even further than it already is, etc. etc.)
All in all, while the E3 map does have its upsides, I personally don't think it'd be the right choice to try and port it over, certainly not at the point we're at right now, and purely in my own opinion, even if we could somehow skip all the practical problems, I don't think I'd like what it would do to the mod in the end, even then the negatives would outweigh the positives for me. It's still possible we could make this decision in the future, mind you, but right now I don't think it's likely.
Currently, the mod utilizes the vanilla map, which has a limited number of provinces. I would like to propose a switch to the E3 map, which offers a significantly larger number of provinces.
The E3 map would not only enhance the gameplay experience, but also provide more strategic depth and historical accuracy. The additional provinces would allow for more nuanced territorial control, diplomatic maneuvering, and overall immersion within the mod.
