Using octave on a maching without octave installed causes a lot of exceptions

Is there a way to disable octave? Or maybe at least catch the exceptions?

look at octaveInit in messageController. It can be traped when the octave 
variable is set

Caught all initialization exceptions and displayed a message to the host in the
mssages window.
