Some/most Groups/tabs lost on FF close/open #98

Before submitting the issue, please check that your version of TabGroups
Manager is the lastest stable one. (Check it in Firefox Extensions).

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. close firefox
2. open firefox
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I should get the same groups back that were defined on exit but instead random
(or almost all) groups are gone or some random tabs have moved to new noname
group.

I had to make TGM to make backups by timer every 20 minutes and keep 30 so that
I can always find at least one relatively new, working backup.

System Info:
What version of TabGroups Manager are you using?
2014.12.21.005 (the non-beta lost all groups all the time)

What Operative System are you using? 32 or 64 bits?
64

What version of Firefox are you using?
35.0.1

Are you using any other tab extension like Colorfull tabs, Multiple Tab
Handler, TabMix Plus..?
Tab Mix Plus

Please provide any additional information below and screens capture if
possible.
I just have say 5 groups, total of 80 tabs, then I close FF and open it again,
there may be ONE group with ONE tab or ONE group with 19 tabs (correct number
but the name has changed to 'Start') or
correct groups but in addition one new group 'noname' with SOME tabs from SOME
other group :o
Sadly very rarely the correct groups AND tabs.

Restoring a backup may fix the problem or then not, it seems they too are
corrupted very often.

This add-on would be great but currently it is very unreliable so the only
solution is to make backups A LOT.

Please fix it soon :)

Currently i use 14 groups with arround 300 tabs and there is absolute no
problem. I restart fx every day. All groups will be correct restored in right
order with correct containing tabs. If you not use suspended groups there is no
problem with TGM.

I would guess over a longer timeframe there is some corrupt stuff collected in
sessionstore.js. There are two locations where data will be stored. If you
start Fx normally all tabs will be restored from fx sessionstore.js file, TGM
assigns only the correct groups with TGM files.

If you use TGM backup/restore functionality the data will be used from TGM
files of course.

What is to do, if we suspect there is some corrupt data somewhere?

1. we can create a new profile and start from scratch -> mostly not preferred
2. we can make a backup of firefox profile and save all groups as bookmarks.

Then delete all groups in firefox, but this is not sufficient, because we
suspect corrupt files, we have still to delete sessionstore.js &
sessionstore.bak & sessionstore backup folder & tabgroupsmanager folder in
profile where the .tgm files lives. If all is done we open our bookmarkgroup as
new group.

I make this regulary always, if i get one of the famous out of memory error.

Check and revert with results. If this not works i have no explanation. I can
this problem not reproduce.

I have seen some small problems when TabMixPlus or other extensions manages
Firefox Session. I would recommend to completely avoid any extension to handle
Firefox Session, and also to take a look to any other extension you may have
installed in Firefox. Even a visual one could break compatibility with TGM.

Please would you mind disabling any other extension, or even creating a new
Firefox profile, and try to import and play with your tabs to see if it works
correctly?
You may start a new clean firefox profile with the following command:
F:\w7_programs\firefox\firefox.exe -p "musik" -no-remote

Thanks.

As indicated in Issue 95, I am having similar problems. I have tried TGM, both
the non-beta and the betas, on FF 35 on a completely clean profile, with zero
extensions. The problems remain the same.

I do not use suspended groups, but there are most definitely crippling problems
using any verion of TGM with FF 35. Note Issue 95.

Thank you for your help, I did as Micha suggested (solution 2) and it seems it
helped, though I still get group named Start every time even if I rename or
delete it but other than that the groups seem to work now :)
I use Tab Mix Plus and I use suspended groups heavily (usually have only one
group active, sometimes couple).

Miguel we need a manual how tgm users can rescue their corrupt session. Best
place is on the webpage and a hint on bug opening regarding this before they
open a bug here.

Indications for corrupt session data are always the same:
-wrong tabs in the groups
-moved to other group tabs are on next start again in the old group
-new opened tabs are lost on next start

In other case we will get more of this kind of bugs.

A good idea would be a new functionaliy to make the cleanup stuff automatically.
