Also, its performance depends too much on the underlying hardware, e.g. the detection works much better on HTC Wildfire than on Samsung Galaxy S II.

Seems to work OK now. Tested on 2 different phones (HTC, Samsung): the phone was placed one meter from the mouth, on a laptop that was playing a YouTube selection on Björk on medium loudness.
