Gtalksms silently loses connection #275

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

Hi,

I've got a very unstable 3G connection, which often cuts off and goes back on.
When that happens, gtalksms loses the connection - it displays as offline in my
IM client, doesn't send any new SMS. However, gtalksms doesn't notice anything
- everything is still green, and the log is blank. Any way this could be
improved? A timeout? Listening for deconnection events if they are broadcast?
Checking the connection is OK whenever a new SMS is received? This bug makes
gtalksms unusable with my current connection.

Hi can you send us more informations as:
- which Android Version?
- which phone?
- which country?
- which provider (like FreeMobile)?
- which xmpp client on your computer?
and some application logs.

Hi,
2.3.4
Nexus One
France
FreeMobile (it was mostly fine with orange, I just changed provider)
Bitlbee as xmpp client, but that shouldn't matter.

The app log is empty, except for some update presence:

I've got the same issue with FreeMobile, probably due to the roaming...
This issue is still under investigation.

You will not have this issue on Wifi.
Please open a ticket at freemobile because I suspect that they stop connexion
after few minutes on roaming.

I use this in Paris, where, as far as I can tell, there is no roaming (only
freemobile antennas). I tried the "only use 2g connections" option, it didn't
change anything, same problems. Can you open a ticket at freemobile, linking to
this thread? I believe it would have more weight coming from an app developer.
I'd be strange if they closed connections, since they built their reputation as
a "neutral" provider that doesn't mess with connections.

I'm in Paris too. I think that is more related to Android but it's still due to
the roaming settings. I far I can say when roaming is on, the phone will try to
connect very often to a new network then it cuts connexions and drains battery.
