reconnect on Google apps account does not respect custom server settings

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to Google apps account. You'll have to put in custom Google talk 
settings for this to work. Connect and everything is fine.
2. Connection is lost for some reason, switching from 3g to wifi, etc.
3. App tries to reconnect with default settings (customserver.com instead of 
gmail.com override) and cannot connect.

What is the expected output?
I can reconnect to Gtalk from google apps seamlessly

What do you see instead?
Connection hangs and tries to incorrectly connect to the Google apps server 
instead of Gtalk override settings. I have to connect manually for the app to 
respect my settings.
