There were many coins issued by the Tamil kings. Many foreign coins and coins issued by other kingdoms of India were also found in Tamil Nadu. There are not enough public domain high quality photos of these coins. It would be wonderful if we can click pictures of these coins with details of coins such as issued by, period of issue, metal type, location found, etc. These resolution pictures along with details can be uploaded to commons with free licenses.

There are many prominent Tamil personalities in this field who could help us. For example Dr.R.Krishnamurthy, well known numismatist could be contacted for this work He is also President, South Indian Numismatic Society. Also the South Indian numismatics society can be contacted and found help regarding this project. Other numismatics society who may help in this effort. Need to contact and check if they would be interested in this project.

This effort will help in documenting the rich Tamil culture. The pictures will be very helpful to increase the quality of articles regarding Tamil history.

Tasks

• Find the contact details of the persons mentioned above
• Contact them and see their interest in this project or how can they help us
• Details of coins to be photographed in a structured way
• Volunteer for clicking the pictures and noting down details systematically
• Uploading the pictures in commons with appropriate category
• Linking the uploaded pictures in relevant category
• If the work is large scale involving the coins in thousands, explore the possibility of applying for a GLAM grant from wikimedia foundation.
