Closes #57. Kind of a hacky workaround, but I don't know that we can do any better.

Testing this live because I like to live dangerously. Worst-case scenario, it's exactly as broken as before.

This is most definitely not perfect, but might be the best I can do for now. There is potential for race conditions.
